[00:00] (0.00s)
my name is Melvin Fung and today I'm
[00:01] (1.80s)
gonna be telling you exactly how you can
[00:03] (3.42s)
get a 7 out of 7 or your English paper
[00:05] (5.58s)
one so first off you want to be scoring
[00:07] (7.68s)
a minimum of 16 out of 20 on the paper
[00:10] (10.14s)
one for you to get a seven in English
[00:12] (12.00s)
but obviously we want to aim higher than
[00:13] (13.74s)
that so a 17 18 19. so let me first go
[00:16] (16.86s)
over what you want to be doing on the
[00:18] (18.36s)
test and then we will go over what you
[00:20] (20.16s)
need to be doing in order to get a 7 out
[00:22] (22.26s)
of 7 in your English paper one so first
[00:24] (24.60s)
off you get an hour 15 minutes for the
[00:26] (26.34s)
test plus five minute reading time in
[00:28] (28.74s)
the five minutes I want you to spend 10
[00:30] (30.42s)
seconds total skimming through both
[00:32] (32.58s)
texts then you should choose the text
[00:34] (34.08s)
that you feel most comfortable analyzing
[00:35] (35.94s)
then for the next four minutes 50
[00:37] (37.80s)
seconds I want you to read through and
[00:39] (39.84s)
understand the text understand what the
[00:42] (42.30s)
author is trying to sell understand what
[00:44] (44.82s)
the aim of the text is within this time
[00:47] (47.22s)
you do not need to analyze any language
[00:49] (49.02s)
your goal is just to try to understand
[00:51] (51.06s)
what the aim of this text is that is
[00:53] (53.82s)
what you're trying to do for the five
[00:55] (55.08s)
minute reading time then after the five
[00:57] (57.06s)
minutes is up I want you to spend around
[00:58] (58.74s)
15 minutes online Rising the tax and
[01:01] (61.08s)
planning your essay grab a piece of
[01:02] (62.88s)
paper and at the top write down what the
[01:04] (64.74s)
aim of the text is then go through the
[01:06] (66.84s)
text again and highlight all the devices
[01:08] (68.88s)
that you can find afterwards group those
[01:11] (71.16s)
devices together and a minimum of three
[01:13] (73.14s)
groups so what I mean by this could be
[01:15] (75.12s)
colloquial language scientific jargon
[01:17] (77.34s)
descriptive language something like that
[01:19] (79.68s)
group it into three groups then on the
[01:21] (81.60s)
pieces of paper write out the three
[01:23] (83.52s)
groups and underneath each group quickly
[01:25] (85.98s)
write out the quote it could be in
[01:27] (87.36s)
abbreviations but you want to make this
[01:28] (88.80s)
faster you do not want to waste time you
[01:30] (90.48s)
do not want to write out the entire
[01:31] (91.74s)
quote so just make it short then after
[01:33] (93.96s)
quote right on the device and briefly
[01:36] (96.00s)
write out the effect behind that device
[01:38] (98.16s)
then for the rest of the time you want
[01:40] (100.26s)
to be writing out the essay you want to
[01:42] (102.12s)
write fast and this can be achieved
[01:43] (103.86s)
through the planning paper that you just
[01:45] (105.72s)
wrote so with the applying paper you no
[01:48] (108.00s)
longer need to even stop to think during
[01:49] (109.92s)
the test you just keep writing and
[01:51] (111.72s)
writing no more brain fogs because
[01:53] (113.40s)
everything is on your planning paper
[01:55] (115.14s)
already you're just constantly writing
[01:57] (117.00s)
without even stopping that is what you
[01:59] (119.04s)
want to do so that was the actual plan
[02:01] (121.20s)
but now let's move on to how you can
[02:03] (123.00s)
actually write seven out of seven essays
[02:05] (125.70s)
let's go first off the only way to
[02:07] (127.86s)
prepare for the paper one to get sevens
[02:09] (129.60s)
is past papers if your teacher is
[02:11] (131.70s)
telling you to do something else other
[02:13] (133.08s)
than past papers in class or out of
[02:15] (135.42s)
class ignore them ignore what your
[02:17] (137.22s)
teacher is saying they didn't take the
[02:18] (138.66s)
IV they don't know how it's done let me
[02:21] (141.00s)
tell you a story it was one week before
[02:22] (142.50s)
the English paper one school test but
[02:24] (144.48s)
the teacher never made us write full of
[02:26] (146.40s)
essays instead just parts of an essay
[02:28] (148.56s)
such as the introduction or the
[02:30] (150.06s)
conclusion or watching YouTube videos on
[02:32] (152.34s)
the paper one or teaching us the
[02:34] (154.56s)
structure of the paper one but never the
[02:37] (157.32s)
actual paper one essay while my
[02:39] (159.30s)
classmates and everyone around me
[02:40] (160.68s)
Blondie listens to the teacher blindly
[02:42] (162.66s)
follow the teacher's instructions I
[02:44] (164.46s)
decided to completely ignore the teacher
[02:46] (166.50s)
I signed a quarter of the classroom and
[02:48] (168.66s)
just worked through past papers never
[02:50] (170.64s)
paid attention in class the teacher
[02:52] (172.44s)
hated me for that but guess what guess
[02:54] (174.60s)
who got the highest grades for the paper
[02:56] (176.40s)
one in class me while everyone else was
[02:59] (179.28s)
averaging a 14 out of 20 on the test so
[03:02] (182.40s)
that just goes to show the past paper is
[03:04] (184.56s)
King you need this because you need to
[03:06] (186.30s)
be so familiar with the structure the
[03:08] (188.28s)
timing your writing the analysis that
[03:10] (190.68s)
becomes second nature during the test to
[03:13] (193.08s)
the point where you barely even have to
[03:14] (194.70s)
stop to think during the test and I know
[03:16] (196.74s)
I mentioned this a lot but this is very
[03:18] (198.54s)
important the reason I say you don't
[03:20] (200.76s)
want to stop the thing on the test is
[03:22] (202.44s)
because you need to be in Flow State the
[03:24] (204.60s)
state of mind we're just constantly
[03:26] (206.04s)
writing while thinking not even having
[03:27] (207.96s)
to stop when you lose your train of
[03:29] (209.52s)
thought and this is very important
[03:30] (210.96s)
because you only get one hour 15 minutes
[03:33] (213.54s)
for this paper one and 15 minutes is
[03:35] (215.76s)
already used for planning so you only
[03:37] (217.56s)
have one hour to write out an essay of
[03:39] (219.54s)
over 800 words on paper so you need to
[03:42] (222.96s)
be fast and therefore you cannot waste
[03:45] (225.06s)
any time just simply thinking without
[03:47] (227.04s)
writing you need to write and think at
[03:48] (228.72s)
the same time and that is where past
[03:50] (230.40s)
papers come in because this skill can
[03:52] (232.50s)
and will be trained via past papers now
[03:55] (235.08s)
I might be saying Melvin that's great
[03:56] (236.70s)
but I have been doing past papers
[03:58] (238.62s)
however I'm still unable to get that 7
[04:00] (240.78s)
out of seven on the English paper one
[04:02] (242.64s)
well obviously that's the case if you're
[04:04] (244.62s)
writing 14 out of 20 essays for your
[04:06] (246.48s)
practices your next practice essay isn't
[04:09] (249.12s)
magically going to be a 17 out of 20.
[04:11] (251.34s)
it's still going to be a 14 out of 20
[04:13] (253.38s)
because that is what you're consistently
[04:15] (255.24s)
trading yourself to write what you need
[04:17] (257.52s)
to be doing is getting professional
[04:19] (259.14s)
instant feedback on every single
[04:21] (261.42s)
practice essay that you write so you're
[04:23] (263.40s)
able to reflect and improve on each
[04:25] (265.20s)
essay every time you write a new essay
[04:27] (267.72s)
now you might be saying am I supposed to
[04:29] (269.34s)
go get feedback from my teacher then if
[04:31] (271.50s)
your teacher gives you feedback within
[04:33] (273.30s)
24 hours then yes 100 go get feedback
[04:36] (276.78s)
from your teacher keep getting feedback
[04:38] (278.40s)
from your teacher however they don't
[04:40] (280.26s)
because teachers are lazy if your
[04:43] (283.14s)
teacher is getting paid the same amount
[04:44] (284.94s)
of money regardless of whether they help
[04:46] (286.80s)
you or not what makes you think they
[04:48] (288.60s)
will do extra work just to help you if
[04:51] (291.18s)
you are writing one to two essays a day
[04:53] (293.10s)
do you really think your teachers will
[04:55] (295.26s)
provide you feedback within 24 hours
[04:57] (297.80s)
obviously not in my case it took my
[05:00] (300.78s)
teacher two to three weeks just to
[05:02] (302.94s)
provide feedback on one essay we don't
[05:05] (305.94s)
have the time for that you don't have
[05:07] (307.86s)
the time for that we need to be getting
[05:09] (309.48s)
feedback for every essay we write within
[05:12] (312.18s)
24 hours so we do not waste time so we
[05:15] (315.06s)
did not subconsciously consistently
[05:17] (317.10s)
train ourselves to write at a constant
[05:19] (319.26s)
level or at a poor level we want to be
[05:21] (321.78s)
writing like this where every essay
[05:23] (323.46s)
improves upon the previous essay that is
[05:25] (325.74s)
what you're trying to do now this is
[05:27] (327.30s)
where I come in I've just started a
